Nobody would talk to me for more than thirty seconds and every woman would laugh at all his jokes for what seemed like hours. Even decades later I think they are still laughing at his jokes. One time he turned to me, “the girls are getting bored when you talk. Your stories go on too long. From now on, you need to leave out every other sentence when you tell a story.” We were both undergrads in Computer Science. 1. I am always up for inventive ways of getting it ( the thoughts ) out and on to zee paper before they evaporate or are crushed by the critic at large. Many kind thanks for your generous sharing and most of your tips I will take, and pass on except for the coffee drinking. Me on coffee not a pretty sight, you would have to scrape me off the ceiling and deposit the remains hopefully somewhere that would grow a flower. Anyway…Merci.

  2. Thanks for the tips. I was in the midst of writing a humor post that was fairly lackluster, and not really what I wanted it to be, when I stopped to read this. After reading your suggestions, I went back and reworked the whole post, staying up way too late in the process, but felt happier with it when I was done. You reminded us all to not settle for mediocrity, just because, for most of us, we’re sharing our writing with the blogosphere for free. My reworked post, “Huffy goes digital” will appear on my blog on 11-16-11 at 1:01 AM.

  3. These rules for writing are great! Love them! I might just print a copy a tack it up on my wall above my desk. It never hurts to remind yourself of creative tips for writing while you’re doing it. 🙂

  4. I’ve come to realise how easy it is to write a good piece when you write a true story, most of us try too hard to be good because in most cases we ink lies. I’m not a good writer myself but I always try to learn something new on a daily basis, and yeah you guys have a big impact on helping me so I’m greatful.
