30 writing quotes to motivate you

There are some great ones here in this post at the Urban Muse, and nearly all apply to blogging as well as other kinds of writing.

Here are two of my favorites, quite germane to our project here:

Anyone can become a writer. The trick is staying a writer.
~Harlan Ellison

“I write when I’m inspired, and I see to it that I’m inspired to write at 9 o’clock every morning.” ~Peter De Vries

You can read all 30 quotes here.

  1. My favorite: “Writing is the best way to talk without being interrupted.” ~Jules Renard

It is the best way to express yourself without others assuming you are rude for wanting to express how you feel right then and there.

    1. Love the first quote so much that it’s my new tagline on my blog, no way someone can interrupt me on my blog!

  2. Anyone can become a writer, true. And there is somewhat of a trick to staying a writer, I admit. However, answer this question: Is a real writer still a writer if he is not writing?
    He is.
Knowing this is the beginning of it all.

    1. Do you truly believe this?
Because your question has been my question just about all my life —
And this despite having published two books and numerous articles and stories, reviews, etc.
Because I do not write all the time, my answer has always been: S/he is not.
So I’m very interested to know more about your strong conviction.
What is it the beginning of?

  3. To date, my favorite writing quote is by the ever so great Alice Walker:

“Writing saved me from the sin and inconvenience of violence.”

Powerful statement. Within all of us is the energy of eros and thanatos. Only a matter of choice makes someone passionate about expression but also disgusted with injustice able to write with force but not harm nor inflict harm on others. To think that those who cannot do this, those that resort to violence, with words or with arms are so different than us who do not is to not know the human psyche. As Freud is quoted, “Men are more moral than they think and far more immoral than they can imagine.” It’s a thin but ever so reverent line between passion and psychosis. Thin.

  6. This is my first Postaday post and wow, the Anais Nin quote that was offered on the Blog ignited something big for me. THANK YOU. (I linked to it under my name and email here if you care to read.)

Here’s a writing quote to add to the word-fire:

“I don’t want for moods. You accomplish nothing if you do that. Your mind must know it has to get down to work.”

    Audre Lorde

    Happy writing, everyone!

  7. I HAVE A SUGGESTION***
What do you think, to write -each and every one of us affected by the story and changed the course of his life. on the condition- that the story is about a specific topic

  8. You feature quotes from Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, and Ben Franklin. You are, however, missing George Bernard Shaw.
As for Anaïs Nin, what we are unable to say is the pronunciation of her first name.
