Pick of the week: don’t quit (from a participant)

There’s a good post on The Day in a Life of Day Trader, who is participating in Post A Day, about not quitting – How apt:

When things things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, When funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Read the whole post at  A Day In The Life of a Daytrader and give him some like mojo and some comments too.

  1. Have posted to the site that this poem should have been attributed to its author, either Anonymous (as most people think) or Edgar A. Guest, as I recall, having had to memorize it in grade school. As it is, Day Trader seems to want us to believe that *he* wrote it!!!

    1. Agreed. I have read this poem before, and was disappointed that “Day Trader” didn’t attribute it to the real author. I’m also disappointed that WordPress chose to promote this plagiarism… Disappointing all around.

      1. Couple of things:

        1. The poem appears in various places on the web as unattributed. It may have been an honest mistake (Though he could have marked it unattributed himself, to indicate he wasn’t claiming it).

        2. Sorry you are disappointed Stef, but if I fact and source check every blog I link to here, I won’t be linking to many blogs. I’m very glad you folks caught it, but to suggest I chose to promote plagiarism on purpose isn’t exactly what happened here.

      2. I don’t think it was deliberate, Stef, but just an oversight — actually on the part of both parties — and only wanted to bring it up in case anyone actually thought that Day Trader had written it. Also as a caution to others, that if they plan to use material and are unsure of the source, they should at least mark it “Anonymous” or, as Mr. Berkun says, “Unattributed.” Safest all around.

      3. Scott, you’re right. (On both counts.) It likely was an honest mistake. And there are so many bloggers participating that you don’t have time (or probably resources) to check everything. (Large numbers of people engaging is a good ‘problem’ to have.) I apologize. Thanks for the check, on both counts. I really do appreciate it.

      4. No problemo – it’s all good.

As a rule, please do let me know if there’s something fishy about something I link to, and I’ll check it out and respond accordingly.

  2. Quitting is so much easier than forging ahead, despair is easier than hope, and
pessimistic is easier than optimistic. But when we do survive by not Quitting we are all Winners, because Winners know these things and still do it anyway.

  6. I just strated bloging this year to and it’s been an amazing experience. It’s very rewording to right to the world out there and it’s great to see that some people are reading and liking it.
Thank you wordpress for the postaday challenge it’s been loads of fun!!

If you guys don’t mind I have a question … my blog’s topic is design however as the days pass I find myself writing about other stuff… what should I do?

    1. I guess it depends on whether you want to keep the blog strictly professional/design related or you’re willing to relax the structure and allow other topics too. There’s nothing to stop you writing about other things, as it can be quite hard to just stick to one theme. I just generally ramble about things. 🙂
But, if your purpose is to establish your blog as a serious design blog, then maybe you should consider having another blog for the other stuff?

  9. Can I just say that I’ve been completely encouraged by the amount of page views I’ve had since I started this blog a day project? It’s amazingly encouraging.

On another note, this poem was something we had to memorise in high school so it was a good detour down that particular memory lane 🙂
