Unexpected. The world is an interesting place: we stumble upon unexpected things each day, like signs that are unintentionally amusing, bizarre sculptures, or even strange evidence of a miniature world on the side of a building (like the door and window in the shot above, discovered in San Francisco’s Mission District).

So, your photo challenge this week is to capture something unexpected. You can also interpret the theme in other ways: a street scene or landscape that just doesn’t look quite right, an impromptu portrait of a loved one, or any other image that reveals a sense of surprise.

We look forward to seeing all of your unexpected shots!

Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

1. Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.

2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.

3. Follow The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements, and subscribe to our newsletter — we’ll highlight great photos from each month’s most popular challenge.

    1. So here is something unexpected:

      CROWDED IN LIKE ANIMALS
Whenever you travel in Latin America by bus, you should be ready to expect the unexpected. Racing up the mountains in suicidal speed while in thick fog or driving trough the rain forest, it’s always an adventure. My last trip to Ecuador was as usual full of adventure too. First of all, the way to the city Baños was simply stunning.
Coming from the coast, our bus was slowly climbing up to an altitude of almost 2 kilometers, high up in the Andes. Other surprises on this trip came in the form of minor food poisoning and a nearby eruption of a volcano.
However, something else stuck to my mind…

  1. Really a very nice and ‘unexpected demanding’ subject Cheri, I’ll search all my archives and if I’m lucky maybe I’d find something more actual :) Thank you for your inspiriting theme!
