Beginning. Hello, 2014. And hello and happy new year to our readers, old and new. This week’s theme might be obvious, but I couldn’t help it — it’s a simple and common word, yet can evoke very powerful, emotional images.

For me, one of the most calming, grounding sights is the fog of Northern California, early in the morning. I took the photo above in my favorite place, the Russian River, just after I woke up and right before heading out on a sunrise kayak ride. It’s my interpretation of beginning.

Let’s see beginning through your lens! I can’t wait to see the variety of submissions.

This week, in a post created specifically for this challenge, show us “BEGINNING.”

New to The Daily Post? Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, you’re invited to get involved in our Weekly Photo Challenge to help you meet your blogging goals and give you another way to take part in Post a Day / Post a Week. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
  3. Follow The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements, and subscribe to our newsletter — we’ll highlight great photos from each month’s most popular challenge.

    1. Beginning: The first pose and first photo shot on the first day of 2014 by Myra Lambino, rendered on Jan. 1, 2014 at the London section of Universal Studios, a reprise of the iconic Beatles album cover “Abbey Road”, the last collective work of the Beatles (and therefore their last album) but ironically endings became beginnings, too, and this work led to the “Let it Be” collection, and a blossoming of their individual, glorious careers… (this photo shoot, with additional direction from Teng Lambino on the detail of the third “walker” being “out-of-step”, Teng emailed that J’s pose (third child) is patterned after Paul McCartney, who was out-of-step in the original photo, barefoot and holding a cigarette, sparking many interpretations worldwide). Happy new beginnings, everyone!

  1. It’s a pity I already begun (and I am afraid I will not begin again this year) … Great challenge though, and I love the example you give with that beautiful morning impression, Cheri. Happy new year!
