Event Type: Photography

Start Date: Sunday, recurring weekly

Description: Every Sunday I run a photo post called “My Home Town” which features a picture from…you guessed it…my home town. I encourage you to do the same, and share a link with us!

The blogging community is filled with people from all over the world. One of my joys is to browse through other blogs that show unique photos of where they live. What better way to learn about the world than through these blogs and what better way to learn about the flavor of each place than by someone who lives there and knows it?

Sketching Fire Sketchbook Challenge

Event Type: Visual Arts

Start Date: Friday, recurring weekly

Description: Once a week on Friday the title of my post will be the “theme” for the week of creativity.

Take your time to determine the direction, interpretation and the many nuances of the word of the theme word. It is all relative to the individual…take it where you want it to go, let it breathe and grow…let it burst into flame. Begin to develop your sketchbook for the challenge whenever you are ready. There is no limit to the number of sketchbook pages devoted to the theme of the week…create as many or as few as you wish. Post your themed sketchbook entry on your blog either as you go so we can follow the process or in one marvelous giant sweeping post at the end of the week….always be sure to drop in here to post a link to your sketchbook entry in the comments of the week’s theme. Share your ideas, your progress and your thoughts on each theme. That way we can all find you and celebrate your creative fire.

My own sketchbook will be digital using a Cintiq tablet and Photoshop. BUT: Please do not feel limited to the digital medium. Traditional sketchbooks in their many, many facets are just fine and fantastic in fact.

The Goal of this challenge is to develop each our own sketchbook journal filled with brilliant glowing creativity….a stepping stone to future creative projects even. It is an opportunity to light up the blank pages with creative fire, to inspire and motivate each other and celebrate each other’s baby steps that will grow into vast sweeping strides into Sketching Fire.

It sounds a bit grandiose but grandiose is indeed what happens when one allows one’s creativity to flow unbridled.

Culture Weekly Capture

Mayan TextileEvent Type: Photography & Visual Arts

Start Date: Saturday, recurring weekly

Description: Hello, Bonjour, Hola, Mabuhay!

Here in The Mixed Culture our mission is to share interesting things about different cultures, inspire others to see, experience & appreciate the uniqueness of other cultures…to go beyond culture. We are inviting you to join us by sharing us your thoughts through photography that depict culture. It can be about your own culture, from the country you’re currently living in, the “pop culture” or your own interpretation of culture. Show us things that you think will help us to understand a culture different from our own. Or, guide us through your photos to some of the amazing places that only locals know about, food worth trying when someone is visiting a new place, traditions to know about in a country….anything you would like us to know about your culture.

So, here’s how we roll:

1. Every Saturday we’ll give a theme for the week. You take photographs according to your interpretation of the theme of the week to showcase your (a) culture. Then, make a new post anytime during the week before the following Saturday.

2. Name your post “Culture Weekly Capture: (theme of the week)” so we can check-out your photos. Write something about the photo (to understand how is it related to your culture) and use the tag “culture weekly capture”. You can also link, Trackback or pingback us so we can hop in to your post.

3. Finally, don’t forget to follow us The Mixed Culture to get the latest weekly theme, and subscribe to our posts via e-mail.

We hope to see your culture through your photographs…Go and Happy Culture Capturing. :)

Each entry is then circulated in a new post if the author is happy for me to do so, but if not they should state that at the time of posting it. All copyright of course remains with the author and the piece is attributed to them at all times.

Entries for each month close on the 24th with a poll then set up and voting open until the end of the month.

The winner of each month then sets the theme for the next month’s competition.

Please note that these competitions are just for fun and are a way for writers to come together and share their work.

Description: This challenge is about sharing moments of delight with each other each week. It could be a photograph, or a description; a video or a poem; a short story or essay, or a combination. Then link up here so we can share in each other’s happy moments.

The rules are simple:

1. In a new post share a treasured moment from your week and “illustrate” it with a photograph, description, poem, short prose, short video, whatever genre fits your moment. If it is visual (photo or video), please tell us why it was special to you.

2. Put a link back to my challenge that week so others may take part if they wish. If you’d like to use the badge, please do.

3. Please use the address of your POST, not your blog, in the linky. Be polite to others so we don’t have to look all over for your post.

seal-vii-hires-whitebgEvent Type: Fiction & Flash FIction, Poetry, Photography, General Blogging

Start Date: Ongoing

Description: Every week We Drink Because We’re Post hosts a poetry prompt (Mondays), Photography/Poetry Prompt (Tuesdays), short story prompt (Wednesdays) as well as hosting a once monthly seven day story challenge. There are no real rules beyond being respectful when critiquing and avoiding trolling at all times. Our expectation: to be able to find your post so we can include you in the results posts each week, whether you pingback to our prompt posts, answer the prompt in the comments section, or use one of our tags (which will be included in the prompt).

Our motivation is simple: we thrive on sharing and casting the spotlight on artists. Why? Because we’re artists, too, and each of us has a healthy respect for how challenging it is to develop one’s skills as an artist as well as make a name for one’s self.

Basically, we’ve been there or we are there, and it never hurts to share and promote artists besides ourselves.

My Weigh To Lose: Monthly Challenge

title-mw2lTopic: Health / Weight Loss

Start Date: The first day of each month, recurring monthly

Description:  Monthly challenges created to promote health, fitness, weight-loss and everything in between. There are many people out there that need the support and motivation. These challenges are to help those people out and to create a tight group of support from all over the world.

When working on change, we tend to believe that we are alone. You aren’t alone and a lot of us would like to be a better version of ourselves.

Each month, there will be a total of 6 posts initiated. For example:

First month asks the questions:

1.What are your fitness/health/weightloss goals?

2.Why would you like to achieve these goals?

3.Describe your level of fitness activity

4.Describe what types of food you like

5.Write a post about your current stats

6.Why is fitness/health/weightloss important to you?

Each question should be a separate post (I don’t want to see one post with everything thrown in there because I want people to take some actual thought in their answers. Plus it will make the readers keep up and not have too much thrown at us!).

Each Post should have a link (or use the widget) that links to the My Weigh To Lose Challenge page.

Prizes may be handed out once in a while to a few dedicated bloggers (prizes will be raffled based on who posted each month). So make sure to post for each question and link to the page or you wont be placed in the raffle!

All posts should be written within 4 weeks of each other if it’s a monthly challenge. You should not do 2 months of Challenges in 1 month. The challenge is designed to create life style change based on your goals, so don’t rush it all at once!

  1. Create a new vegetarian recipe without using quorn — any other protein is acceptable;
  2. Try to link it to a philosophy or political idea, e.g., feminism, and try to be creative with your naming  – funny or sarcastic or puns all welcome.
  3. Post it on the last day of the month;
  4. Link to the main event page and repost recipes that inspire you!

Please state how many people the recipe will serve and whether or not you have actually created it yourself, or if it’s an adaptation of someone else’s recipe.

Did you visit with a loved one that is no longer among the land of the living? Have you dreamt of pursuing a goal and you’ve obtained it?

    1. I have just published the same content in a post, and the Trackbacks & Pingbacks work perfectly. It does seems that Trackbacks & Pingbacks work with posts only and not pages.

    1. Also, this list is for actual planned events — regular posts that ask for feedback don’t really qualify; that’s what every post is, essentially. If you plan an event in the future, be sure to submit it!

  1. Thanks for mentioning my challenge! It would be great to have a direct link to this page in a prominent place (like under the “community” heading or beside/under “Freshly Pressed” in the reader top bar/side window) so all WPers can get here easily!

  2. Thanks for this list and including my What if challenge. It has received a lot of response and we’ve had a lot of fun with it. It is great to see all these inspiring writing events listed in one place.

      1. Thank you for listing my event, and for this whole idea! I have begun to participate in other events from your list, I especially liked the suicide prevention event, reasons2live, this could truly make a difference in someone’s life! Even save lives. Just wondering, will these Blog Events be highlighted on WordPress main or reader pages at some point? How will most people know they are here?

  3. Thanks for this great link – I am a new blogger and its given me lots of ideas on how to broaden my horizons……. watch this space for Age Group girl. Now I need to get better at using the templates etc :)

  4. Can I please have my event removed? I am no longer doing the event and I know I asked before to have it removed and it still hasn’t not happened. I have gotten people coming to my blog looking for the prompt only to find it not there. I don’t plan on bringing it back. Please remove the event.

    1. This is why I have called to be able to have control of our posts, I would suspect that not being able to remove your own posts could breach the copyright law, as the post you make is copyright to yourself so not having control breachs your right. What do you say, would you like control of posts made outside your blig?

  5. Hi there, I would like to get my event removed from the list above, I have posted on at least one other forums but have not got a response, who do I need to contact in order to get an event removed?

  6. Hi
I filled in the form to post a monthly event challenge in food but I can’t see it in the list above. I did this because none of the food challenges that I found on the links seems to be active. So can you help please? I have created a page on my blog ready for it.

  7. Hi I submitted an event a week ago and it has a time limit, so I’m wondering if I submitted properly and if it will be listed here soon. I’ve been blogging for a year and a half and this is the first event I’ve submitted, so if there’s a better process to have my questions answered, let me know. I searched through the forums but I saw nothing about the events. Hope to hear back soon, thanks.

  8. Generally I do not lear article on blogs, but I
would like to say that thnis write-up very pressured me to check out and do so!
Your writing style has ben amazed me. Thanks, verry nice post.

  9. I just like the helpful information you supply to your articles.
I will bookmark your weblog and take a look at again right here frequently.
I’m slightly certain I will learn a lot of new stuff proper here!

    Good luck for the next!

  10. Hey There. I discovered your weblog using msn. This is a
really well written article. I will make sure to bookmark it and come back to learn extra of your
helpful info. Thanks for the post. I’ll certainly return.

  11. very very kewl i am goiong to share in my events section :) u guys are awesome all the different sites on this page here way cool auctually “2 Kewl fer Skewl” :) Q

  12. Hi, I’ve submitted a blog event a couple of days ago, but it isn’t listed yet. So I did submit it again today (this time with an event logo included). I don’t know, does this list still exist?
Just in case, I’ll post the event information here:

Name of event: Featured Images Event
    Blog: http://internationaltravelbloggers.wordpress.com/

The event is recurring every two weeks.
Here’s the info: We are a blog for TravelBloggers to connect. Every two weeks on a Sunday, we change the 6 images featured in our photo slider on the front page. TravelBloggers can submit their travel related photographs to share them with a growing community. If your images are chosen, we’ll make a little post about you and your blog and feature them in our slider.
