Alternatively, you can open an Incognito window with Google Chrome or a Private Browsing session in Mozilla Firefox (which will mean you aren't logged into WordPress.com), and refresh the blog a few times until you see the ads.

The ads do change as advertising partners come and go, and run on all WordPress.com blogs, regardless of size.

I’ve been considering the upgrade as well, but like the others, I have no idea what ads run on my blog, for how long, or what they look like. This is kind of important. If I see an ad there once, does that mean it’s the same one there all the time, or do they change? If I remain just a small blog do I not have to worry about it? Is there some sort of magic number and then you get advertising? Lots of questions here. Obviously, you’ve struck a chord.

Updating your domain won’t cause you to lose your followers — your wordpress.com domain will simply forward them to your new domain name, easy as pie.
