Weekly Writing Challenge: Wrap It Up
For some of us, blogging is personal. Others are trying to educate or entertain; many more are hybrids. Yet we’re all storytellers. Creative Writing Challenges help you to push your writing boundaries, show off your blogging chops, and, hopefully, spark more post ideas.
To participate, tag your post with DPchallenge or leave a link to it in the comments. (It would also be great if you could link to this post to encourage people to take part – the more the merrier!) Your post should be specifically written in response to this challenge. We’ll keep an eye on the tag and highlight some of our favorite posts on Freshly Pressed on Friday.
It’s nearly the end of 2012, and that means it’s time for year-end wrap-ups and top ten lists. Top ten movies, worst political gaffes, five most exciting new breakfast cereals — you name the topic, and someone’s got a list.
Why should bloggers be immune to the year-end wrap-up? In fact, taking a few minutes to pause and reflect on our past year’s worth of experiences can be a valuable exercise; it helps us remember changes we want to make, identify areas into which we want to grow, and, hopefully, allows us to pat ourselves on the back for goals accomplished.
This week, we want to see your year-end posts. They can take all forms, from a “top X” list to a reflection on a particularly influential experience to month-by-month recaps to a look at things you’d like to do better next year. Include photos — how many cities did you visit? Include statistics — how many visitors did your blog have on January 1, and how many did it have yesterday?
There’s no need to make this a serious self-assessment (although you certainly can). Regale us with stories of the five most embarrassing things your kids said, tell us about the ten best burritos you ate (we assume you are regularly eating burritos), or lament the top three most unfortunate places your dog pooped. Your year is what you make of it, so it’s all fair game!
We’ll kick things off with an easy one. Here are our five most popular posts of the year:
- Weekly Photo Challenge: Solitary
- Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette
- Weekly Photo Challenge: Everyday Life
- Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far
- Weekly Photo Challenge: Big
(Y’all are going to help a Weekly Writing Challenge break into the list for 2012, right? I thought so.)
And here’s a more personal list, of the top three most unfortunate places my dog pooped:
- The brand-new throw rug in the living room.
- The exact same spot on the brand-new throw rug in the living room.
- THREE TIMES. What are the chances?
Ready, set, reflect!
