Weekly Writing Challenge: A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words
For some of us, blogging is personal. Others are trying to educate or entertain; many more are hybrids. Yet we’re all storytellers. Creative Writing Challenges help you to push your writing boundaries, show off your blogging chops, and, hopefully, spark more post ideas.
To participate, tag your post with DPchallenge or leave a link to it in the comments. (It would also be great if you could link to this post to encourage people to take part – the more the merrier!) Your post should be specifically written in response to this challenge. We’ll keep an eye on the tag and highlight some of our favorite posts on Freshly Pressed on Friday.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Prove it!
This week’s challenge couldn’t be simpler: tell a story based on this picture.
You can take this in whatever direction you’d like.
- Write some fiction. Who are these people? What’s their backstory? What’s going on in this picture? What happens next? Construct a history for us.
- Write from your own experience. Do one of these people remind you of someone you know, or of something that’s happened to you? Connect the dots for us.
- Go on a flight of fancy. Who knows what pops into your head when you take a look? Grab the first thing and go with it!
We’ll tell you the truth behind the photo in next week’s challenge post, but we’re sure it won’t be nearly as interesting as what you come up with!

I read through a lot of this weeks entries and they were all fantastic, but most of them appeared to be fiction stories. My post this week is a more analytical look at this picture and the power of pictures in general. Hope you enjoy it

I love this kind of challenge as this is what my blog http://postcardfiction.com is all about. However, I never have people in my photos. This, as I found out, changed everything. Here’s what I came up with: http://janetkoops.com/2012/11/09/weekly-writing-challenge-kodachrome/
Mine seems a little darker than most.

Every writer should try this!
What does this picture have to with President John F. Kennedy? Everything. Click here: http://lizlogic.wordpress.com/2012/11/09/three-days-later-post-a-week-challenge-a-picture-is-worth-1000-words/
Ah. FP entries already selected, and I post now.
Anyhow, my entry here. Was fun writing it.

And now I see that the person above me has also made a reference to John Kennedy in her post. Eerie!
